Lots of help is needed to make this happen!
Breakfast Servers
Help serve breakfast Monday through Friday, 7:30-9 a.m. Food will be prepared by Shebra in the MPUMC kitchen. Help once or come every day!
Field Trip Chaperones
Kids will leave the church for service projects, plays, bowling, swimming, and more. Choose your favorite activity or the most convenient day(s) and join the fun. Monday through Thursday, 12-3 p.m.
Swimming Buddies
Make a splash! High school youth or adults are needed to join the kids in the pool on afternoon swimming outings. Days and times vary.
Snack Providers
Bring a special snack or ingredients so kids can make their own (like ice cream and toppings to make sundaes). Monday through Friday afternoons.
Activity/Craft Leaders & Helpers
Share or help supervise a craft or hobby, Monday through Thursday, 12:45-2:45 p.m. at either MPUMC or STCC.
Supply Buyers
Volunteers are needed to purchase school supplies each week. Teachers will provide supply lists each Thursday (June 19 through July 24). Supplies may be purchased and delivered to the church on or before the next Sunday.
Grocery Grabbers
Two people per week are needed as "on call" runners to Costco if breakfast or snack foods run low. No expense, just your time!
Prayer Partners
Commit to pray daily for one special student or intern throughout the five weeks of Freedom School.
Mentors
Past or present teachers are needed for one hour per week to provide one-on-one mentoring to the Freedom School interns serving as classroom leaders.

What is
Freedom School?
Freedom School is a summer enrichment program that teaches kids a love of learning, self-respect, African-American heritage, and the truth that “I can and must make a difference in my community and the world.”
Specifically, this ministry supports children and families in low-income neighborhoods around five essential components: High-quality academic enrichment, parent and family involvement, civic engagement and social action, intergenerational leadership development, and nutrition, health and mental health.
Myers Park United Methodist Church is partnering with South Tryon Community Church and Bethlehem Center to offer this program to 60 children from the Southside, Brookhill and Wilmore communities this summer.
