Often Advent gets bogged down with the commercialization and social norms of our society, but reflection on the hope and joy of the season is also needed. MPUMC Library has many books about the miracles of this season. 

One of my favorite devotionals is ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS WITH THOMAS MERTON. The spiritual quotes and thoughts of Thomas Merton blends themselves into daily prayers. LOVE CAME DOWN includes the best sermons, books, poems and hymns from various writers. Henri Nouwen wrote about the wisdom of waiting, hope and celebration. James Moore and J. Ellsworth Kalas wrote about the miracle of Christmas for each of the four Sundays of Advent.  Also, Pamela Hawkins, Donald Shelby, J. C. Polkinghorne, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Paul Stroble and others are in our library.
