Kick-off Sunday/Blessing of the Backpacks -- Sunday, August 22

Third Grade Bible Presentation/Reception -- Sunday, September 26, 9:45 a.m.
Each fall third graders are presented an engraved Bible as a gift from the church. Information about this event is mailed in early summer to all families with rising third graders. Following the worship service, children and their parents are honored at a reception.

Faith Academy -- Monday, October 4 -- Monday, October 25
The Myers Park Faith Academy will offer short-term classes to explore key habits and practices of our faith. The courses, led by staff and leading scholars and experts in the community, will offer us the opportunity to learn and grow in faith together.  The Academy is part of our Growing in Faith initiative, developed through our 2009 Strategic Plan.

Third Grade Bible Retreat -- Saturday, October 9 -- Sunday, October 10
Held each fall at Valle Crucis, third graders enjoy outdoor games, great food, and time together away from church. The group leaves on Saturday and returns on Sunday. A favorite activity is Sunday School on Saturday Night. There is a fee for this event to cover the cost of the site, the chaperons, and transportation.

Fourth Grade Lock-in -- Friday, November 12

Blessing of the Gifts -- Each Sunday in Advent beginning November 28

Advent Wreath Workshop -- Wednesday, December 1
Celebrate Advent this year by making your own Advent wreath with your family.  Bring your children, grandchildren, parents, or spouse to our Advent Wreath Workshop in the church expansion room (basement).  The cost per wreath is $10, which covers wreath-making materials and candles.  All you need to bring is fresh greenery from around your home, and, if possible, extra greenery to share with others.  

Breakfast with Mary -- Saturday, December 4, 9:00 a.m., Jubilee Hall
The Mary Circle invites all 4-year-olds through second graders and their families (including younger and older siblings) for a special morning of fellowship and celebration. Enjoy a light breakfast, sing songs, visit with Mary, and make heirloom nativity figures. 

Kneeling at the Manger -- Sunday, December 19
Kneeling at the Manger is a favorite tradition at MPUMC. Children are encouraged to dress as their favorite nativity character, and, at the appropriate time in the story, to come to the manger. Through the singing of carols, other special music, and the beauty of the story and its characters, all who participate experience the joy of Christmas. Fifth graders have a leadership role in this service.
