Staff

Our staff is committed to providing quality experiences for children. Collectively, the staff has many years of teaching experience and many hold degrees from major colleges and universities. Each staff member brings unique gifts to the classroom, but all adhere to best practices in early childhood education. Their loving attitudes are reflected in their daily approach to each child. In order to ensure professional growth, staff members are required to maintain ongoing training each year though in-service and outside training opportunities.

Susan Wade, Director

Susan Wade joined The Children's Circle as director in summer 2007. She has worked with young children for nearly 30 years in a variety of settings. Most recently, she was an early reading first literacy coach with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools PreKindergarten program. She holds a bachelor of arts in early childhood education from Queens University of Charlotte and a master of arts in reading education from Appalachian State University. Her background in literacy education leads her to a special interest in developing pre-reading and writing skills of preschoolers. She is also a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church. Susan believes that she is a part of God's plan for a "bigger" purpose of our school. The things that Susan loves most about working with children are their keen observations and sense of wonder. She loves to watch them explore and discover their world. Her advice for parents of young children is: "to be present. To really take time to know your children and connect with them - play, read, talk and just spend time together. Discover your child's gifts and celebrate them." Susan has three grown daughters, two in living in Charlotte and one attending NC State University.

Patty Matthews, Director's Assistant

Patty Matthews joined The Children's Circle as director's assistant in 2008. She has worked with young children for over 25 years. Born and raised in Charlotte, Patty started teaching swimming and coaching at Starclaire Pool and Charlotte Country Club. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill with a physical education degree, she taught and coached girl's basketball and volleyball. The things that Patty enjoys most about working with children are their honesty, their ability to always put a smile on her face and their belief that they can do anything. She feels children remind us all about what is important in life and that God has a purpose for all. Patty married her high school sweetheart and has three children. Her older two daughters live in Charlotte, and her son attends Cape Fear Junior College and plays basketball. All three of Patty's children attended The Children's Circle and had a wonderful experience.
